Exploring the Therapeutical Value of the Mountain

Did you know that Mount Royal Park was thought of to help Montrealer's health? Discover it's concepter's vision, Frederick Law Olmsted, and the Hospitallers' heritage, including their garden which played multiple roles and is now part of the Mount Royal Heritage Site. This tour will lead you from the monastery garden to the Camilien-Houde belvedere while passing on the East side of the mountain. An invitation to a wellness moment for body and soul! This tour is offered in collaboration with Les amis de la montagne. 

This tour is an intermediate-level hike (forest trail/incline). Duration: 3h. Distance: 3 km. 

Accessibility: this hike is not accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Exploring a Hospital Heritage
The exhibition presents Montreal's origins, the history of the Hôtel-Dieu, the city's first hospital founded by Jeanne Mance, and the Hospitallers of Saint Joseph, who managed the Hôtel-Dieu until 1973. During your visit, discover the unique artifacts and archives that make up the Nuns' collection. These objects will allow you to relive the evolution of medicine and the health crises that plagued Montreal.

Corpus insolite : Jana Sterbak
The Musée des Hospitalières de l’Hôtel-Dieu de Montréal, renowned for its unique collections of historical, medical and religious artifacts, is proud to present an extraordinary exhibition, Corpus insolite : Jana Sterbak. Running from 29 January 2025 to 24 August 2025, this exhibition invites visitors to experience Sterbak’s thought-provoking works in dialogue with the museum’s collections. Curator : Johanne Sloan

Thanks to Herbroressence, the monastery garden holds a small medicinal garden, reminding us of the Hotel-Dieu garden in the 19th century.

On the 3rd Thursdays of the month, you can have an unexpected encounter with Masque (2014), a knitted and crocheted cotton work by Jana Sterbak, embodied here in a performance.
